The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team had no problem taking care of Highland on Wednesday night, sweeping the Cougars 25-6, 25-15, 25-7 in an Arrowhead Conference match at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (9-4, 2-0) racked up 18 aces and 34 kills as they posted a .448 hitting percentage to stay undefeated in conference play.

Peyton Bowman (West Prairie) led Sandburg’s efficient offense with nine kills on just 11 attacks to share the team lead for kills with Hannah Thompson (West Prairie). Thompson was solid defensively as well, as she had a team-best 10 digs for Sandburg.

Sophomore Josalyn Owens (Lincoln) served nine aces for the Chargers, including four during a 12-0 run in the third set that gave Sandburg a 13-2 lead. Jordan Price (Fulton) added six aces for the Chargers. Two of those came on consecutive points during a six-point run in the second that broke a 13-all tie.

Freshman setter Cora Vyhnanek (West Prairie) handed out 28 assists for Sandburg.

The Chargers return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Illinois Valley in another Arrowhead match.
